Default gene editing

Listening to the radio this morning there was mention of gene editing in fetus which could help stop diseases such as HD. Did not hear all the interview but wondered if any one else has heard of it. xx

Hi there

I’m not sure if this is what you were listening to as it's not fetus-related - but it’s in the same region of research:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06qkr6d#play Move the timer along to 2 hours and 42 mins.

Charles Sabine again: http://eurohuntington.org/2015/11/30/video-charles-sabine-speaks-at-evotec-hamburg-2015

Then there’s the CRISPR research – read all about it!

Hi GHF (forgive the abbreviation)

I haven't yet caught up with this, but speaking to a friend on the phone this evening, she made reference to a news report, where they were talking about this and a man, who's Dad has HD gave his opinion. I think it was a BBC report but not sure... We live in hope eh?

Take care. x

Thank you that is it, and it was on the evening news, very interesting they cut out or alter the mutated gene and replace it with a new gene. It will wipe out the mutated genes in future generations. I will watch this with interest

It’s all a bit like what’s going on in the Middle East, isn’t it? Who and where are the mutated rogue factions – in whose genes?

Are we at war with Syria? Or are we at war with ISIS, ISIL, IS [now being called Daesh]? Oh, let’s drop a few bombs and see what happens. It’s very difficult to get to the real truth behind all this by reading newspapers or watching TV News channels as they all have a different angle on it.

They’ll destroy, eliminate or alter the rogue mutations and replace them with a new regime. It will wipe out the mutated genes for future generations.

One thing is certain though – it’s going to take more than a lifetime to resolve.

I saw the report (very brief I might add) and the man interviewed was Charles Sabine. BBC1 News, 6pm - try catch it on iplayer, it explains what gene editing is very simply.....in fact, it makes it sound like childs play and I fear they are yet again reporting on something and raising hopes when in fact it will be years and years and years more yet....but that's still light at the end of the tunnel...
