Last year I was at a meeting organised by our RCA where Dr Crawfurd from St Mary's in Manchester gave a talk on the progress of research. He had just returned from a European Research conference. Among the topics he discussed was stem cell research. He said there were a number of places where this was going on and included some work in France with stem cells.
His opinion was that stem cells were the most probable route to a treatment for HD once sufferer was symptomatic.
Researchers are now not talking about a cure as such, but either treatments and disease modification to delay the onset of symptoms until those with the gene die of something else, old age ideally.
The article looks promising, but as often said early in the minimum 10 year time frame to bring any drug or treatment from the lab to the patient.
There are so many research projects going on it things must get better in the next 10 to 15 years.
