Default Hello Everyone

Morning All,

Hope you are well.

I did my genetic test over ten years ago and I have the mutated gene for Huntington’s – not showing symptoms. I was wondering if anyone has adopted while knowing your genetic statues. As I am currently going through the adoption process and would like to make contact with people who has gone through the adoption route for family planning.

Looking forward to any feedback. Thank you

Welcome to the mb Neil.

Sorry to hear of your HD status.
I wanted to reply to your specific question, but because I could not be sure I would be giving you the correct information (this is not something I have any direct knowledge about)... I thought it best not to!. So I hope others may be able to do so.
Can I ask if you are UK based?

Best wishes
Crystal

Hi Neil

Welcome to Messy Board. Sorry to hear you got the short straw and have the gene but great to hear you are symptom free still.

Like Crystal, I have no direct experience of adopting. However, I did a search in here on the word 'adopt'. There were a few where people were adopting children who could be at risk but only one I could find where the circumstances seemed comparable to yours from the brief info you outline.

I have put a link to the Thread below. It's a very short thread and, unfortunately, the initial enquirer never came back with any updates.

Whereabouts are you ? Have you mentioned this when applying . I know i considered adopting with my HD positve husband, I thought Huntington's was a condition that was listed as a no go back then in uk .It may have changed now but they will certainly assess your long term as well as short term fitness to be an adoptive parent .

sorry can't be anymore help as didn't take it any further hope you can gt some answers with up to date info

good luck

Gabby
