Bumpety, Bumpety time for book and also most recent blog entries:

Thinking about the linking

Curse in Verse - Amazon (Other bookshops are stocking)

Curse in Verse - Amazon Kindle

Also available from the HDA Book Shop

And a little ditty while I am in here:

If you are reading this here verse,
You have the internet,
So please take just a minute,
If you haven't done so yet.

To open up the link below,
And have a little read,
Of an E-Petition "wot I wrote" [That one's for Eric and Ernie fans btw]
On which we're all agreed
.

I'm not asking for money,
Or for any large amount,
Just a typey tappy signature,
On which a vote will count.

I've put the word out far and wide,
And tried HDA News,
But the signatures do not display,
A large amount of views.

I've had a go at Twitter,
And although I've been so nice,
I'm seen to be a nuisance,
As they've bloomin banned me twice!

So I'm urging all you people,
If you haven't done so yet,
Do the signing straight away,
Or else you may forget.

You may have signed already;
I'm sorry I'm a pain,
But just to be quite certain,
Can you please try once again?

The register of signatures,
Looks such a small amount,
That it may be where not verified,
Your signatures don't count.

So if you try another time,
You'll soon be sent a note,
That you've done the thing already,
And you've made your casting vote.

Where not going the whole way through,
It may suggest a fail,
Insofar as you may not have clicked,
The link sent by E-mail

If you do not get, or can't recall,
An e-mail to click on,
The chances are the mail is there,
But in your Spam has gone [Or Junk if you prefer ]

CLICKY HERE

THANK YOU!

Hi Trish
Just wanted to say I am reading your book at the moment it is opening my eyes I thought I was prepared and was aware but how wrong and kept in the dark I feel that I've been.:

I am so pleased that I have found this board.

Hi Anne

Thanks for getting the book and I hope it's helping rather than hindering. Feel free to add a review on the site you bought it through so that others may also find it of help or steer clear if it's not for them.

This Board is amazing for interaction with others and also for useful information. That was part of my reason for trying to gather and consolidate experience etc in one place via a book and getting the Message Board out there.

Don't forget to use the search facility on this Board if you have any particular topic you may want to check on other people's stories/hints.

Book sales have slowed right down. Not that they were flying off the Amazon or HDA shelves in the first place lol. However, I'd be interested to know if people have views on the following:

Would people have been more inclined to buy had I hidden the poetry theme in the description and title (verse). Basically, should I have made out it was a text book; fiction; or non-fiction HD story?

Is the price too high? £6.95 + P&P RRP although other prices are set by the on-line stores and the HDA get copies direct at circa £3 making a direct profit where they sell at £5.

The Kindle Price is cheaper £3.60 + VAT. But again, in Kindle terms is that too high?

In terms of profit, I make £1.22 on each UK book sale; $1.40 (set) on each US book (Kindle V). £1.17 and around £1.50 US Sales (subject to exchange rate) per hard copy. Still a long way to go until I recoup the outlay costs of over £1,000

Have I not marketed it in the right way? Apart from general marketing tactics, I have more lately been concentrating on pushing the Petition since Jan and have deliberately shied away from pushing the book too much on Twitter etc/ I didn't want it to undermine the Petition if people assume it's a marketing ploy where I consider the Petition of most use to raise awareness.

Obviously it's not about the money. It was always a therapy; come tribute to Steve; come tribute to the HDA; come tribute to those with HD and thier families and carers; come wider awareness tool. However, with the clear failure of the Petition to make a difference (no way it's going to reach even 10,000 by Jan 2014), and the failure of the book to recoup the outgoings in over 2 years, I need to take stock of the effort I have personally put into these things and am continuing to do.

I'm not saying I would stop altogether, I just need to think about the value of my output vs wider input.

Hi Trish,

here's my take on small publications...

# niche markets are initially largeish then become slow burners over the years
# self publishing is best, once you achieve free webspace and/or free advertising
# the price, within reason, doesn't seem to affect the sales if you have reached the target reader
# questioning content/presentation is natural but once you have the product how you envision it then leave it alone and build a 'brand'
# make it as easy as possible for people to choose and buy immediately they decide to purchase
# look, by all means, for a second/similar product to build on the first product but do not be surprised if it is impossible to attain.
# occasionally give the product away to advertise it

-and on the big plus side:
# be pleased that all readers now know your loved one's name!
# you have created awareness more than you could ever imagine!
# you have challenged yourself throughout the process of writing/publishing.

Wishing you continued strength to carry on without Steve...

regards
Brian.
