Hi Dylan

The first thing we would usually do is advise you to contact the regional Specialist HD Adviser but there doesn’t seem to be one for South Wales at present so the best bet is to contact the HDA HQ:

Suite 24, Liverpool Science Park, Innovation Centre 1, 131 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool, L3 5TF
Tel: 0151 331 5444
Email: info@hda.org.uk

Also, have a look at messages #6 and #9 from nicolann in this thread: http://hdmessageboard.com/showthread.php?t=4726

You’ll have to wait a while to contact her though as she and Grant are currently on holiday.

Hi and welcome- Allan has pointed you in the right direction, I worked in domiciliary care for several years, mainly dealing with the elderly/dementia.....I worked with some live-in carers who I have to say were superb. If you contact the Companies, many on (Google) , I am sure they can tell you if they can assist someone with HD. I can name 2 Companies, but my experience was just with the individual carers and not on an HD basis. Wishing you all the best.

Hi

We have a live in carer, provided after hubby was sectioned and discharged under section 117. I think finding someone who is specialised in HD, is quite difficult. The company that provides our care is Better Healthcare, they are based in Brighton, we live in Cambs! They seem to specialise in Dementia and physical disability. For us it has worked with the main carer provided, he has been brilliant, and as hubby's needs have changed he has adapted with it, it has certainly helped having Jimmy Pollards Hurry Up and Wait book, and him reading up on HD. Finding someone who is kind, caring and sensitive, is the key, we have had a couple of relief carers that have not really been that ideal, the last one who came, was similar in personality to main carer, and the plan is to try and have him every time, it is just going to take some juggling to achieve that, with his time off after he has been at someone else's home.

Good luck in your mission.
