Default Carers week

Last week was carers week with events up and down the country acknowledging the massive role carers have which often goes in noticed as it goes on quietly behind closed doors .
Many charities MND , Parkinsonís Uk , the MS association to nane but few supported cares week and those acknowledged carers doing the 24/7 365 job that is being a carer to someone with these complex neurological conditions .

Itís the carer that is there at 5.30 on a Friday evening when everyone else stops for the weekend and there cleaning the bathroom preparing the food sorting the appointments at 6.30 on a Monday morning before the working week begins .

Carers are there good Friday and Easter Monday Christmas Day and Boxing Day and everyday in between and many in Huntingtonís disease families been caring for generations ( which I think is a sound bite the hd often use ) but for family carers the reality is years of their lives .

Carers dont want awards thereís not a competition to say one person. Is doing better than another .

It is however a huge disappointment that there was not one single message from the HDA to acknowledge the caring roles that many of their members have taken on .

I know volunteer week was well supported and there is an awards ceremony for the amazing fund raisers who have participated in incredible feats of endurance and raised thousands of pounds but for many carers this is not possible as their each and ever moment is taken up by caring .

Carry in caring cos if we donít do it who will xxx
